STARS Scholarship Application
Applying for the STARS High School Senior Scholarship
The St. Thomas Aquinas Altar & Rosary Society (STARS) is awarding two one-time $500 Scholarships to a graduating high school senior who is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Indianola, to help further his/her education. Recipients are to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree, license, or certification in a post-secondary education the semester immediately following high school graduation. The graduate may be enrolled in a public, private, or homeschool environment.
To be eligible the applicant must:
- Be an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
- Have good academic standing in his/her class at the end of seven semesters as determined by the review committee.
- Be enrolling as a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or more) at a post-secondary school offering a degree, license, or certificate.
Selection Procedure
Applications for this scholarship must be turned in to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Office no later than 3:30 p.m. April 25 to be considered. Award recipients shall be selected by a review committee as determined by the S.T.A.R.S. co-chairs. The committee may seek advice and guidance from high school guidance counselors and/or principals/references in complying with the requirements under Basic Criteria and obtaining other information.
The review committee will use the following criteria in the selection process:
Involvement of St. Thomas Aquinas parish activities following confirmation.
Dependability.
Other factors in making their selection.
However, the selection shall be solely at the discretion of the review committee. The announcement of the scholarship winner(s) will be in conjunction with the home high school’s honors or awards program.
Payment
Proof of acceptance to a post-secondary college/university/trade school shall be sent to the St. Thomas Aquinas parish office. Upon that receipt, the scholarship award payment will be made directly to the award recipient. It will be the recipient’s responsibility to utilize the scholarship funds for expenses directly related to his/her educational needs.
